2. How do I determine the proper length for a single jump rope?

Generally, the proper rope length is determined by your height as follows:

  Length     Suitable For
  7 ft.     up to 4'10"
  8 ft.     4'11"-5'3"
  9 ft.     5'4"-5'10"
  10 ft.     5'11"-6'6"
  11 ft.     over 6'6"

To determine the exact length for an individual, stand on the center of the cord.

The handle tips should reach your armpits. When you jump over the rope, the rope should just brush the floor beneath your feet. If the cord doesn't touch the floor, the rope is too short. If the cord hits the floor in front of your feet, the rope is too long and should be shortened.

The size chart and the individual method are general...optimum rope length ideally depends on how high you hold your arms as you turn the rope with your wrist, thus check where it hits the floor and make any minor adjustments.

3. What length ropes should I buy to run a jump rope program in my school?

We recommend that you buy a variety of rope lengths to offer individual, partner and group activities as follows:

*40Single (individual) ropes
6 pairsLong Ropes (12-16 ft.)
3 pairsLong Ropes (20-36 ft.)

*For a class of 30-35 students we recommend 40 ropes to accommodate the varying heights of students and to allow additional longer single ropes for partner activities. We suggest a range of 7, 8, 9 and 10 ft. ropes.

Choose rope lengths that will meet the needs of the age and height of the group. We suggest the following:

  Single Ropes     K-3     4-6     7 & up     K-6     4-8     K-8
  7 ft.   25   10   -   15   5   5

6. What is my best buy to jump rope for fitness?

We find that athletes and members of aerobics clubs, boxing and boxercise clubs like our regular Beaded jump ropes and our Fitness & Training speed ropes best. Each of these ropes starts at just  $5.95 each (plus shipping and applicable taxes). You may buy a rope with our JumpFit package for just $15.95! The package includes our 24 page JumpFit Personal Skill and Workout Program, a DVD and a jump rope in your choice of style (Speed Rope, Beaded Rope or Fitness & Training Rope) and in your choice of length (8 ft., 9 ft., 10 ft. or 11 ft.) We do not sell weighted HEAVY ROPES, nor do we encourage their use due to possible injury to the user. Instead we encourage jumping rope supplemented by a good weight training program for those who wish to use weights.

7. How can I start a jump rope club or team?

To start a team or jump rope club, the first thing is to decide on equipment and instructional/coaching materials you will need. Ropes can be ordered in quantity from the School/Club/Team Rope Orders section, in both Single Ropes and Double Dutch & Long Ropes.

We would suggest a few dozen single speed ropes. We recommend the Speed style as they are least costly and light weight...but the Beaded ones are good too for a good workout. If you want to include double dutch, we suggest ordering either the Beaded or Cloth style ropes. They are best for teaching skills and for beginners to control.

Our new Jump2bFit® Rope Skipping Fitness and Activity Program will be perfect for your jump rope club or team teaching and coaching needs with sections on skills (single rope, long rope and double dutch for individuals, pairs and groups), club practices, routine choreography, competition rules, performing for audiences and the like. Learn more about the Jump2bFit® Program

It is very easy to start a jump rope club or team because the skills are easy to learn and to teach and young people catch on so quickly. You do not need a highly specialized or qualified instructor. Many excellent teams and clubs are coached by an interested teacher, parent or other adult who had a group of kids, a place to practice and some basic equipment and teaching information.
