A Quick Tour Of World’s Largest Castle; Prague Castle 🇨🇿
Prague Castle is a castle complex in Prague, Czech Republic, built in the 9th century. It is also the office of President Miloš Zeman of the country.
Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world, occupying a area of almost 70,000 sq.metres,at about 570 metres in length & 130 metres wide.
It is an ancient symbol of the Czech State, the most significant Czech monument & one of the most important cultural institutions in the country. 🇨🇿
It was most likely founded in around 880 by Prince Borivoj of the Premyslid Dynasty. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it consists of large-scale palaces.
It also hosts ecclesiastical buildings of various architectural styles, from the remains of Romanesque-style buildings from the 10th century...
...through Gothic modifications of the 14th century. Since the Velvet Revolution, Prague Castle has undergone significant and ongoing repairs.
St. Vitus Cathedral - the largest and most important place of worship in Prague - is also a part of the castle complex.
It is also home to Prague’s Golden Lane! A lovely street of colourful cottages built in the 16th century to house Rudolph ll’s castle guards.
But, Golden Lane didn’t always look the way it does now. After World War ll, the street was integrated into the castle and the houses were repainted.
Today, it proudly sits atop the beautiful capital, and views from here are justifiably stunning. A trip to Prague should be on everyone’s list! 🇨🇿
