do an Arabesque
Brush one leg to the back until just the toe is touching. In ballet this is called “tendu”
Now practice lifting the leg off the floor as it brushes to the back. This is called “degage”
Lift the leg with control a little higher. Try to keep the hips facing forward.
Cross and lift the leg behind to create a 90 degree angle with the legs
When looking at an arabesque straight on the leg should disappear from sight
Side view for arm variations
Arm variations: front view
AVOID: leaning forward as the leg rises
AVOID: letting the leg drift open to the side
AVOID: sinking into the standing hip. Hard to see but if falling try lifting taller through the leg.
Add arabesques to your turns, jumps, and other dance moves!
