Beginner Crochet Scarf
Crochet abbreviations I use in this tutorial.
Materials: 324-432 yds of #5 bulky weight yarn, 6.5mm hook, yarn needle & scissors
1
Slide the yarn label off and find the yarn tail. Usually it’s tucked into one end. Pull out a length of yarn.
2
Start with a slip knot on your hook.
3
Crochet a chain to the width you want your scarf, plus 1 more for the turning ch. I ch 20 here for a 7” wide scarf.
4
Skip the chain closest to your hook. Single crochet in next chain.
5
Sc in next ch and in each ch across the row.
6
Row 1 is complete. Turn your work to start Row 2.
7
Ch 1, sc in that first stitch (the ch 1 is a turning ch & does not count as a st). Sc in each st across.
8
Turn, and rep Row 2.
9
Keep repeating! Eventually you’ll need to add a new ball of yarn.
10
Tie on new ball of yarn.
11
Keep crocheting. We’ll work over any yarn tails we can & weave in any others at the end.
12
When your scarf is to length (54″-76”) it’s time to weave in your ends.
