Copy Paper: inexpensive and more convenient than a sketchbook for initial pencil sketches
1
Mechanical Pencil: again, inexpensive and super convenient for sketching
2
You can do a TON with pencil & paper, no need for more! Even so, here are more supplies I love...
Strathmore Bristol Paper: a bright white, smooth, heavyweight paper. Perfect for marker illustration
3
Tracing Paper: refine sketches, like an analog version of Photoshop layers! Great for drop shadows
4
Baron Fig Confidant Hardcover: markers don’t bleed to the next page and these look great in photos
5
LED Tracer: convenient for copying sketches onto heavy paper, like bristol, and costs less than $25
6
Microns: my favorite black fineliner, available in several sizes, perfect for details & outlines
7
Sharpie Pen: these also work great and are less expensive than Microns, but only come in one size
8
Fine Point Black Sharpie: good for filling in large areas of black
9
Block Eraser: you’ll be erasing a lot, a block eraser lasts longer than your pencil’s eraser
10
Colorful Fine Point Sharpies: favorite for filling in, great on bristol & Baron Fig notebooks
11
Metallic Paint Marker: fun for adding some shine & variety to your illustration
12
Gelly Roll Glaze Pens: just really fun to use! Very wet, stays shiny & slightly 3D when dry
13
iPad with Apple Pencil & Procreate: fun & professional, draw digitally in a variety of styles
