Building A Workbench For Makers
Select 2 1/2” steel angles to make the base out of. Cut the pieces to length.
1
Use an angle grinder to grind them down flush. Weld the top pieces and then weld the backside.
2
Assemble the base upside down. Lay out support beams and prop up the frames on either end.
3
Add additional horizontal supports. Start welding the inside edges of the steel angles.
4
Use steel angles to make a middle shelf to hold the steel top.
5
Use table saw to trim off the edges of 2x4 on either side.
6
Take 7 of the trimmed 2x4 and glue them together.
7
Let glue cure for 24hrs before glueing together the second piece of the bench top.
8
Run the pieces through the thickness planer.
9
Glue and clamp the 10.5” pieces to the 6” wide piece. Trim the bench top with a circular saw.
10
Sand the slabs and finish the wood with 3 coats of Minwax wipe on poly.
11
Use angle grinder to cut the piece down. Clean the steel with acetone and seal it with paste wax.
12
Use construction adhesive to glue a piece of MDF to the inside of the chanel.
13
Drill several holes. Clean the base with acetone and seal with paste wax.
14
Screw the shelve boards to the base.
15
Cut pieces of 4x4 to create spacers to fit in the gap. For the middle shelf use a piece of 2x8.
