Ch 3 Alternative Stitch
For this technique I’m using a swatch of double crochets in #5 weight yarn + 6.5mm hook.
1
A typical way to start a row of dc is with a chain 3, but it’s not very structured and leaves a hole.
2
For the ch 3 alt, immediately insert your hook in that first stitch.
3
Pull up a loop, you’ll have 2 loops on your hook.
5
Yarn over again,
6
Pull through both loops on your hook.
7
Insert your hook through the vertical loop on the left.
8
Yarn over again
9
Pull through just 1 loop on your hook (you’ll have 2 loops left on hook).
10
Yarn over again
11
Pull through both loops on your hook.
12
Now we have made 1 ch 3 alt, or standing stitch.
13
Dc across. Work in the top of a ch 3 alt by going under the top two looks like a normal dc.
14
This is my go to way to start a dc row. It fills the space, is sturdy and is easy to crochet into!
