Line a sheet pan with heavy-duty foil and butter the foil
1
Melt the butter with the salt in Cast Iron Dutch Oven over medium heat. Slowly add the sugar, stirring constantly with wooden spoon
2
Test the mixture to see if sugar is dissolved. The mixture will probably be boiling at this point.
3
Cook to the hard-crack stage, or about 310-320 degrees on a thermometer, stirring often to keep the candy from burning on the bottom.
4
Remove from heat and pour into the prepared pan, spreading as evenly as possible with small spreader. Be careful, this stuff is hot!
5
Melt semi sweet chocolate in saucepan
6
Poar chocolate onto candy and spead evenly
7
Before chocolate hardens, top with almonds
8
Tip: press nuts gently with spatula to anchor them to chocolate!
Let toffee harden for 6-8 hours. Then break into pieces.
9
Package in an airtight container
10
Send to friends and family for a sweet holiday treat!
