Colored Pencil Coloring Tutorial
Pick your colors; an inspiration photo can help
1
Color in your main elements using light pressure
2
Add a darker colored pencil for each color you used in the first round
3
Keep adding detail with more pressure or darker pencils
4
Keep going; add highlights by coloring the edges of design elements leaving the center lighter
5
Color in shadows added by the artist in the design (firm pressure)
6
Use a dark blue to add shadows (this works on top of any color)
7
Use a white pencil and press firmly to blend and smooth colors
8
You may need to add shadow blues again
9
On banners use medium pressure on the edges, lightening up as you work inward
10
Add other versions of the same color OR press harder with your pencil to add depth
11
Make coloring look more polished by coloring in the background with a complimentary light color
12
Use firm pressure around the edges of the banner to add more dimension
13
Shadows make it look dimensional; try to imagine a light source (mine would be from upper left)
14
If your coloring has made original elements fade out, use a pen and draw them back in!
15
Layers, layers! Back in with the dark blue for MORE shadows
16
Use the white pencil again for further blending
17
Repeat colors as needed but go slowly, build your colors up
18
Trace over the wording to make it stand out again if necessary
19
Adding colored tracing to details with color makes them stand out
