Craft A Fall Wooden Porch Sign
Let’s make some fall decor!
Sand your wood surface and edges WITH the grain, brush off when done
1
Stain your wood- don’t forget the sides (I also recommend staining the back)
2
While stain dries, create a word chart of seasonal things that make you happy
3
Practice writing your words in different styles like cursive, block, serif, etc.
4
Draw a scaled down board (mine was 8x48” = 1x6”) & decide the word placement - this is important
5
Measure sections- I did 7 word sections at 6” each, and 2 decorative sections at 3” each = 48” total
6
Outline first with pencil and trace with fine tipped chalk marker
7
Outline to the exact thickness with your fine tipped marker
8
Using a very fine angled brush, SLOWLY go over your traced letters with paint
9
Spacing is everything! It will make your words look balanced and polished
10
Add decorative illustrations- I did branches and autumn leaves with simple shapes and strokes
11
I added more branches & color to make it more fall - simple is best otherwise it will look too busy
12
Add color to your letters to help it pop, but don’t get too wild- clean and bold will stand out best
13
Take one last look to see if any colors need to be brightened
14
Display your fall sign near your front door!
