Easy Soft & Chewy Homemade Pretzels
Place warm milk in a large bowl and sprinkle over yeast - allow to sit 2 min
1
Then add in the sugar and part of the flour and mix with a wooden spoon
2
Stir in the softened butter
3
Then the remaining flour and salt - mix until it’s a shaggy but sticky dough
4
Turn the dough out and knead 5 min or knead using your standing mixer with hook attachment
5
Approx 5 min or until dough is smooth but still slightly tacky, (should come away from the bowl easily)
6
Shape into a ball and place in a greased bowl
7
Cover and place in a warm spot in the kitchen until doubled in size - 1 hour
8
Punch the dough to deflate it, then turn out onto clean surface - cut into 6 pieces
9
As even as possible (feel free to use a scale to weigh if you want them to be exactly the same)
10
Roll & stretch into a 30 inch rope holding the ends and slapping the middle of the rope on the counter as you stretch.
11
Then form into a pretzel - form into a U shape, cross over the ends of the U shape twice then bring them down to meet the bottom of the U
12
Let’s do it again
13
Dissolve the baking soda in 3 cups warm water in a shallow dish or a bowl
14
Gently dip each pretzel in the soda solution, then arrange on prepared baking sheet
15
Repeat for all of them
16
At this point you can brush them with egg wash then sprinkle with coarse salt - I like to brush mine with butter after so I skip egg wash & just salt
17
Then bake until golden, 10 to 12 minutes
18
Brush with melted butter (optional - If you did egg wash you can skip this step)
19
Then enjoy!! They are sooooo good
