Exploring Natural Bridge State Park In Virginia
Start at the visitor center for trail information, restrooms, water and more. If you’re short on time we recommend the Cedar Creek Trail.
After a steep staircase the Cedar Creek Trail begins. Your first stop is Natural Bridge.
Thomas Jefferson once owned the land that Natural Bridge is on. He purchased the area and 157 acres around it in 1774.
Follow the creek on the Cedar Creek Trail. The trail is 4.5 miles out and back.
Stop and explore the Monacan Village.
Go inside replica shelters, see demonstrations and learn about the Monacan tribe.
Next, gaze into Saltpeter Cave.
Deposits from exhumed potassium nitrate from the cave were used to make gun powder in the early 1800s.
Further along the trail discover the Lost River.
An underground river who’s origin still remains unknown!
Chilly and refreshing to the touch, especially on a hot day.
Continue on the trail across a bridge and through beautiful forest.
At the end of the trail you’ll reach Lace Falls, a 30 foot cascading waterfall.
Follow the trail back and marvel at Natural Bridge one more time.
