Fried Venezuelan Style Arepas (Gluten-free)
1 cup
Harina PAN
1 1/4 cups
Water
1/2 tsp
Salt
Add 1 1/4 cups water then gradually add 1 cup harina PAN

Don't forget 1/2 tsp salt. Work the dough with your hands to make a ball. Break up any clumps.

Let the dough rest for 5 mins while you heat your pan over medium

Divide into 4 portions. Roll and flatten, smoothing the sides

Melt the fat. Fresh lard, butter, or ghee are the best options

Fry for 3-5 mins per side in plenty of fat

Flip and cook another 3-5 mins. Add extra fat if needed. I love them browned and crispy!

Tap them and listen for a hollow sound to know they are done

Allow to cool, then use a butter knife to cut them open. Optional: scoop some of the middle out

Fill with meat, eggs, veggies, whatever you want!
