Gingerbread House With Stained Glass Windows
Melt 2 sticks butter in a small saucepan over medium low heat.

Stir in 1 cup granulated sugar.

Add 1 cup molasses. Stir to combine.

When the sugar has fully dissolved, take off the heat and cool slightly.

Level off 4 cups of flour and add to a bowl.

Add 1/2 cup more flour...

Then add 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon baking soda.

Add 2 teaspoons cinnamon, 1 teaspoon nutmeg, and 2 teaspoons ground ginger.

Mix all the dry ingredients together.

Add the lukewarm butter mixture to the flour mixture and mix with a hand mixer until combined.

Add the remaining 1/2 cup of flour and stir to combine fully.

Place the dough on a piece of plastic wrap in a disk and wrap tightly. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Roll the dough into a 1/8 inch thick disk.

Use a stencil or a ruler to cut even rectangles. You can make different sizes for multiple styles.

Cut the top of the rectangle to create a roof and use the triangle to cut the chimney. Cut out star.

The star cut out will be where you will make the stained glass window.

Use a bench scraper to place the cookies on the parchment lined cookie sheet.

Continue with the rest of the houses. Make the edges perfectly straight by pressing against knife.

Bake at 350 F for 10 minutes.

To make stained glass windows crush jolly rancher candies in a small baggie with a rolling pin.

When you have 3 minutes left of baking add the candy pieces in the window holes and put back in oven

Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool completely.

Make the royal icing by adding all of the ingredients in a stand mixer. Mix on medium speed.

Wipe down the sides of the bowl and slowly add water to thin to desired consistency.

We want the icing to have a soft peak.

You can also color the icing if you desire.

Place the pastry bag over a cup and then add the icing.

Grab the bag and rotate the top to create a “seal.”

Cut a very small tip off the bottom of the pastry bag. Begin piping in single strokes.

Decorate with sprinkles.

Make lights with multicolored sprinkles.
