Growing Garlic From A Bulb In A Bottle
Start with a plastic bottle, a knife or scissors, and a bulb of garlic.
1
Cut the top of the bottle off just before it curves in
2
Make sure it will nestle on top of the bottle.
3
Cut the neck off.
4
Discard the little part.
5
Place the garlic bulb in the first piece and set on top of the bottle.
6
Fill with water until the bottom root part is in water.
7
One week later!
9
They are sprouting and the roots are really starting to grow into the water.
10
This hardneck garlic is taking longer than the other, but we have progress!
11
This one is a softneck variety and is growing faster.
12
This is what the bottoms looked like before they went into the water.
13
This is 16 days later and they are ready to be transplanted into soil.
14
This one is the hardneck variety.
15
Rooooooots!
16
They will continue to grow and get crowded. You want to pull them out of the water before the mold
17
You can see the cloves have started to pull away
18
I’m planting these in a pot just to show, but tomorrow I’ll be planting them in the ground.
19
You can just pull the cloves apart and stick them in the ground
20
Make sure to put the root end down.
21
Planting! Made sure the whole clove is in the dirt.
22
In the fall, each of these individual cloves will grow into its own bulb!
