How To Embroider The Cross Stitch For Beginners
The embroidered cross stitch will create a bunch of small x’s. Let’s check out the best way to do this!
Start by drawing two guidelines with an embroidery marker or pencil. These lines determine the width of your stitch.
1
Knot the end of your embroidery floss, or follow my previous tutorial for starting embroidery without a knot.
2
Come up through the back of the fabric at the start of your bottom guideline.
3
Make one stitch diagonally forward, going back through the fabric at the top guideline.
4
Come up from the back on the bottom guideline, directly under where you previous stitch ended.
5
Continue creating diagonal stitches, trying to keep stitch length even.
6
Repeat until you’ve completed a full row.
7
Come up from the back, directly under your last stitch.
8
Stitch diagonally backwards, meeting at the top of the previous stitch.
9
Continue this process creating little x’s, called cross stitches.
10
Keep going until you’ve crossed the full row!
11
End by weaving the floss through the last few stitches in the back and cut excess.
