How To Embroider The Fern Stitch For Flowers & Borders
Sneak peak at the fern stitch, perfect for flower stems & decorative borders.
Start by knotting the end of your embroidery floss, or watch my earlier Jumprope about how to begin w/out a knot!
1
Come up from the back of your fabric.
2
Move ahead one stitch length and go back down. Stitches can be any length you’d like.
3
Come up from the back, diagonally to the left of the previous stitch.
4
Go back through the fabric at the end of your first stitch.
5
Repeat this on the right side, creating a “Y” shape.
6
Add one more stitch in the center, it will almost look like a chicken foot! 🐓
7
Here’s the fern stitch shown all together.
8
Use the fern stitch to create flower stems and decorative borders.
9
Repeat as long as you’d like. Finish by weaving embroidery floss through the last few stitches in the back & cut off excess.
