How To Make A Magazine Collage Valentine Card
Start with two blank greeting cards in any color you’d like. If you don’t have blank cards you can fold cardstock.
Choose a short phrase for your Valentine.
1
Sketch the main word(s) from your phrase in big block letters on one greeting card. Bolder is better.
2
Add supporting words in smaller lettering, any style you’d like.
3
Open the card and carefully cut out the big word(s) using an x-acto knife and cutting mat.
4
Be sure to save the negative space pieces from inside your letters!
5
Cut the other greeting card in half, then cut about another 1/4” off of two sides. You will only need this smaller piece.
6
Trace your block letters onto the smaller greeting card piece. You can use pencil. I’m using white pen to show up on black.
7
Cut out shapes to collage inside your traced letters.
8
Use a glue stick or Mod Podge to glue down your magazine images. Cover all of the letters, its better to go outside the lines here.
9
Test your collage inside your card to make sure all letters are filled in. Add more to your collage if there are any empty spaces.
10
Add glue around your collage and to the back of your cut letters.
11
Press these two pieces together firmly. I like to use a clean piece of paper so I don’t accidentally smear glue.
12
Don’t forget to add back in the inside of any letters, like the inside of this “O”.
13
Add finishing touches by inking the smaller words, adding embellishments, and erasing pencil marks.
14
You can customize your collage for the recipient, making it traditional or silly!
All that’s left is a heartfelt message. Happy Valentine’s Day!
