How to Make Custom, Colorful Shrinky Dink Earrings
For March Meet the Maker day 5, “newest make”, I’m sharing a tutorial to make Shrinky Dink earrings!
You need: earring design, shrinky dinks, sharpies, scissors, hole punch, jewelry pliers, jump rings, ear wires, tape, sealer, pan lined with tin foil
Start with a design about 3x bigger than what you want your final size to be.
You need the design to be larger because Shrinky Dinks shrink to about a third their size!
Shrinky Dinks have a shiny side and rough side. Tape the sheet shiny side up on your sketch.
Use Sharpies to color in your design. You can customize your earrings however you’d like! These are based off of paintings I’ve done in the past.
Repeat with the other earring. Keep in mind the colors will get darker when these bake.
Cut out your designs.
Punch a hole in the top center of each earring.
Line a baking sheet with tin foil & place your designs colored side up.
Bake at 325 degrees for 3-4 minutes. Watch for them to curl up, then let them flatten back out.
Remove from the oven as soon as they have flattened back out.
Add your favorite sealer. I used Mod Podge, followed by one coat of Mod Podge Ultra Gloss.
Add two jump rings and an ear wire to each earring. Check out my earlier Jumprope on how to use a jump ring.
