How To Make Easy Yeast Bread - Perfect Every Time!
Combine 2 cups warm water (between 95 -105 degrees), 1 tablespoon salt, 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 packet of dry active yeast. Let stand for 5 minutes.
Add between 5.5 and 6 cups of all purpose flour one cup at a time using a spatula and then your hands. Dough will be very wet.
Remove from the bowl and knead for 5 - 7 minutes.
When the dough becomes smooth and no longer sticks to your fingers you are done kneading. Shape dough into a ball.
Lightly oil a bowl and place the dough ball inside. Cover with a damp towel until dough doubles in size (1 - 1.5 hours)
Once doubled, remove from the bowl, knock the air out of the dough and shape. Place in a baking sheet.
Make 3 - 5 slashes in the dough.
Cover with a damp towel and rest for 30 minutes
Preheat oven to 400.
Optional - right before placing in the oven, brush loafs with cold water and place a roasting pan of cold water in the oven (this forms the shell).
Bake for 35 - 40 minutes. Cool for 30 minutes before eating.
