How To Make Royal Icing For Sugar Cookies
Add 4 cups of powdered sugar, 3 tbsp meringue powder, and 1/3 cup warm water to a mixer.
Use whisk attachment and beat on low for 7 minutes.
Scrape down sides of the bowl and make sure everything is thoroughly combined.
This will make very stiff royal icing. Good for decorating details.
Add 1/2 tbsp water and mix to combine. This will thin the frosting to use for cookie borders.
A little softer and shiny for cookie borders.
Add 1 more tbsp of water and mix to combine for thinner ‘flood’ or ‘fill’ icing.
