How To Sew A Baby Bonnet
Download and print the bonnet pattern linked in this lesson.
Cut bonnet hat fabric, following instructions.
Cut visor fabric and interfacing
Pin 1 outer bonnet piece to center rectangle, right sides together
Pin 1 outer bonnet piece to center rectangle, right sides together
Pin 1 outer bonnet piece to center rectangle, right sides together
Sew around pinned edge with a 1/4” seam allowance
Sew around using 1/4”
Notch curved seam
Repeat with other main bonnet piece
Sew around using 1/4”
Notch curved seam
Pin the straight edge of the visor to the bonnet, right sides together.
Sew visor to bonnet using 1/4” seam allowance
Press the seam towards the hat (not the visor)
Trim 1/4” inch off of the straight side of the visor interfacing

Fuse interfacing to the visor

Sew lining pieces together exactly like you did the main bonnet
Lets make the ties
Iron edge inward to the middle fold you just made
Fold in half again and iron
Place a knit on one end of each tie
Stitch each tie down using an 1/8” seam allowance
Sandwich your lining and main bonnet pieces, right sides together.
Pin or clip, making sure to line up seams
Pin or clip, making sure to line up seams
Stitch all the way around using a 1/4” seam allowance, leaving a 2 inch space for turning.
Flip your bonnet right side out.
Press bonnet before top stitching
Top stitch around bonnet, making sure to catch the opening.
That’s it! Now put your bonnet on your baby and kiss their cheeks!
