Before. Plain Cedar chest.
1
Clean well with White Lightning. Inside and out.
2
Remove hardware and fill holes with Dixie Belle Mud.
3
Fill holes with a finger or a spatula. Over fill so when you sand back the surface will be smooth.
4
I removed the small wood divider to open up the space. Sanded to flat, and sanded the Mud.
5
I used spray paint to change the color of the hardware.
6
I also sprayed the keyhole to match the hardware.
7
Let’s stain the top! Gel Stain is applied to a surface over existing finishes. No need to sand!
8
Wearing gloves I apply stain with a rag in one direction. Covering the entire surface. Even coats.
9
WoodUbend mouldings are bendable, stainable and paintable! A great addition to add detail.
10
To apply the WoodUbend moulding you heat the item first. Then add glue. Then apply to the furniture.
11
After adhering to the piece you heat one more time. Ensuring this is flat to the surface.
12
After the WoodUbend has dried you are ready to paint right over top!
13
Let’s add the second coat of Espresso gel stain. Wipe on in the direction of the wood grain.
14
Colors used for this piece- Sawmill Gravy & Burlap. Classic and neutral design.
15
Burlap was used around the edges and trim. Highlighted in the middle with Sawmill Gravy.
16
This is one coat of color down. When it dries I will use a misting bottle to blend second coats.
17
Blending the second coat. Separate brushes for each color. Blending the two colors together.
18
This is the chest after blending and two coats of gel stain.
19
I used Best Dang Wax in Clear applied with a brush to seal the paint on the base.
20
I used a Belle brush to apply Dixie Dirt in Earth to darken the edges and moulding.
21
To darken and apply I sprayed with Easy Peasy Spray Wax. Then brushed on the “Dirt” and wiped back.
22
I applied Warm Gold Gilding Wax to highlight the trim and moulding. Apply with a brush or finger.
23
Beautiful shine and shimmer. This will help pull together the gold hardware.
24
Seal the Gel Stain with Gator Hide. Install hardware. Almost done!
25
Apply Gatorhide with a brush, blue sponge or foam brush. Using thin coats to build protection.
26
Stage and photograph!
27
Look at the beautiful age and detail. Amazing change and update!
28
I love how the Dixie Dirt adds character.
29
Transformation is complete! Thanks to Dixie Belle and WoodUBend!
