Paint your wood. Let dry completely.

Snap a photo or two of your design for reference as you work.

Start by adding your bottom most piece. I hit each layer with my hair dryer. Don't melt the vinyl. Just warm, then press the vinyl into the wood.

Add your second layer.

Line up your next layer. I did two because they don't overlap each other.

Here I am, using my hair dryer to warm the vinyl. I use my fingers to press the vinyl into the wood.

I added the black layers over the white.

Next I added my white pawn layer.

And finally, I added the black later for the pawn.
