Make A Live Edge End Table
Main materials needed: log, chainsaw, & blowtorch.
1
Roughly sketch out your bookshelf. Tip: keep bark on to absorb any mistakes. Next, saw through at a few points so you can flip over and finish cutting
2
Beat the hell out of it.
3
Optional: for parallel ends I used my vertical chainsaw mill (Free plans at making-makers.com). Otherwise just eyeball it
4
My first time using a drawknife (FUN), but you can peel the bark off as well
5
Let’s turn up the heat. Shou Sugi Ban the inside with your blowtorch
6
Sand from 60 grit and move to 80, then 120. If desired, this is the time to stain
7
Spray shellac does a great job sealing in the soot & stain (not used)
8
Lastly spray lacquer 3x, lightly sanding between 2nd & 3rd coat
9
All finished. Now Makers, go enjoy some coffee and a good book. Thanks for watching
