Making Laser Cut Appliqués for Cosplay
This tutorial uses a Glowforge. Many libraries, maker spaces & STEAM centers allow free use.
Design your appliqué and save as a high resolution jpeg.
Import design into Glowforge’s program and size. Select your chosen material.
Many materials can be laser engraved. For this appliqué, I used natural tooling leather.
Put a layer of paper tape on your leather. This prevents scorching and keeps designs sharp.
Insert leather, check alignment, & hit start.
When finished, carefully pick off the paper tape.
Notice all that char and scorching that the tape kept off the design.
Hand paint with leather dyes.
