3 Off-Ice Jump Drills For Figure Skaters
Welcome skaters! Let’s jump in the snow
3 “bunny hop” jumps into an open air position. Hold position until completely steady (3-5 seconds), then check out into landing position with 3 hops
Landing position tip: keep control over landing side: upright posture, level arms, slight bend in skating knee, and controlled free leg
Back spin to hold, repeat 3 times into open air position followed by landing check out
Make sure you’re holding your open air position until you have control over your landing leg (and if you slip in the snow, don’t worry)
3 single rotations followed by single rotation into open air position and landing check out
For more advanced : add double or triple rotations
“Open Air Loop” position helps build balance and strength over landing side
