Today, you will create a unique artwork with a woven TEXTURE.
Fold your background paper in half.
1
Place your ruler along the opening of your folded paper & draw a horizontal line. Make sure your opening is at the top.
2
Starting at the bottom crease, cut three vertical lines that stop on the pencil line. Make sure to start cutting on the fold and not the opening.
3
After marking the middle of each paper section, make four more vertical cuts.
4
Here’s a diagram of what “WARP” and “WEFT” lines are.
5
This is now, your cut paper LOOM with 8 “WARP” lines.
6
Cut out multiple strips of different colors of paper to use as your “WEFT” lines.
7
To begin weaving...Paper Strip #1: UNDER-OVER-UNDER & Paper Strip #2: OVER-UNDER-OVER.
8
Make sure that you can see the “checkerboard” pattern with your first two paper strips before adding your third strip.
9
Repeat the “OVER-UNDER-OVER” & “UNDER-OVER-UNDER” pattern with the next two strips.
10
Continue adding different color strips to your weaving.
11
Tip 1: Make sure to slide each strip of paper right up to the edge of the previous strip.
12
The corners of the different paper strip colors should touch in the checkerboard pattern.
13
Keep weaving more paper strips until you run out of room on your loom.
14
You can add extra detail to your weaving by drawing line/shape patterns in the colored spaces.
15
You can also cut extra skinny strips of colored paper to weave on top of the original strips.
