Whisk together 1.5 cup flour, 3/4 tsp baking powder, 1/4 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp salt

Beat 6 tbsp butter and 1 cup sugar

Add one egg and one egg yolk

Mix in 2 tsp vanilla extract

Add in the flour mix alternating with 3/4 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)

Bake in a grease and floured 9 inch pan for 28-30 minutes at 375F

Toast 3/4-1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans in a pan till they smell toasty

Bring 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup butter, 1/4 cup cream to a boil then simmer for 3 minutes

Turn off the heat and stir in nuts and 1 tsp vanilla extract
