Quilt 101: Half Square Triangle (HST) Block

You will need (2) fabric squares, marking pen, ruler. Sewing machine and rotary cutter (not shown)

Place fabric squares on top of each other with right sides together

On the wrong side of the lightest fabric, draw a line diagonally from corner to corner

Stitch 1/4” either side of the drawn line

(contrasting thread used to show the stitching lines)

Cut squares apart on the drawn line

Open half square triangle block and press seam towards to darkest fabric

Trim block on 2 sides to your finished size using the markings on your ruler to keep block straight

Rotate block 180 degrees and trim remaining 2 sides. Use ruler markings to check block is straight.
