Restaurants to Try in Helena, Montana
Helena is sometimes maligned as not having good food. That is far from the truth! I've found many restaurants I enjoy and love, so here's a guide!
Note that some pictures were take-out that was plated at home, and some pictures are pre-covid. I haven't been dining indoors most of the pandemic.
The Silver Star Steak Company is located in the Great Northern Hotel and is so good. I consider it affordable fancier fare with a luxury ambiance.
A friend believes they have one of the best burgers she's ever had. Get a bison burger and a huckleberry Moscow mule! Great portion sizes here!
If you're a fan of the food in Greece, Italy, and Turkey, look no further than the Mediterranean Grill.
The restaurant's owner moved from Turkey to the USA when he was young--which explains why the food is so good here. It is authentic!
Cheddar's Gourmet Grilled Cheese is a cozy restaurant, and in the summer they also run a food truck. They have many fans in Helena.
I love their sandwiches, especially their caprese sandwich, and their tomato soup is so delicious and addicting.
If you are craving some ramen, Hokkaido is the place to go! We were stoked to find a ramen shop in Helena since we left behind a favorite in Hawaii.
Good ramen is hard to find, and we are pretty happy with the quality of Hokkaido's ramen.
The Grateful Bread Bakery and Cafe doesn't only sell pastries and bread--they also sell food! Be warned some of the portions are on the small side.
Their chicken minestrone soup is good, and Fri/Sat they typically serve their award-winning clam chowder, which is THE BEST I've ever had!
If you want coffee and a good sandwich, and want to support local, check out 1889 Coffee House instead of a national chain coffee shop.
Check out their hot pastrami sandwich and get a latte. They also have several other menu items.
1889 has an amazing, cozy upstairs loft I once drank coffee in. I dreamt of spending more time there, unaware of the pandemic that would soon hit.
The Crêperie recently moved to a new location, 11 W. 6th Avenue, near the great Big Dipper Ice Cream.
The Crêperie make great sweet and savory crepes, and are definitely worth checking out!
If you are arguing over whether to get Thai food or Japanese food, check out Suki Cafe.
Thus far they have the best sushi out of the restaurants we've tried. The Helena Roll is so good.
For a slightly heftier price tag, On Broadway is another option for a fancier Italian meal.
Check out their best seller, the Chicken Broadway. Their chocolate mousse cake is also to die for.
Cafe Zydeco is also good for Southern fare, and I also liked MacKenzie River Pizza Co. I've heard great things about Saigon Alley as well.
Other restaurants in Helena I haven't tried but have heard great things about are Lucca's, Maison, El Vaquero Taqueria, and Steve's Cafe.
