Downtown Helena has many shops, esp. along Last Chance Gulch, and an amazing walking mall. Here are some of the many shops you should check out!
The General Mercantile is such a fun family place to get candy, gag gifts, tea, Montana items, or a gift for a picky person.

They also serve really good coffee, so you can get a caffeine kick to fuel your shopping! The Merc is a woman-owned business.
Sage & Oats Trading Post is one of my favorite shops for Montana gifts, products by local artisans, and gifts that are culturally diverse.
2
The store is a majority native-owned business given that owner Major is Northern Cheyenne. His wife Michelle is of Scotch Irish heritage.
Montana Book Company is a great bookshop selling new books, vinyl records, stationery items, pens, and more. Note they are closed Sundays.
3
They are a LGBTQ-owned business and carry an amazing selection of anti-racist books in addition to the other wonderful items they sell.
Boxwoods is a cool shop if you want to drool over home decor that would instantly elevate your home to Instagram perfection.

Aside from decor, you can find things like fancy candles, quill pens, or, for a special souvenir, Helena tiles you could display or use in your home.
These are the tiles showing Helena landmarks, which so far I haven't noticed at the other gift shops. Boxwoods is also a woman-owned business.
Bear grass trading company sells vintage items as well as new items that could be used for gifts, like art and gorgeous Montana greeting cards.

Aside from having vintage, decor, handmade items, and salvaged finds, it is listed as a woman-owned business as well.
If you are traveling with the kids or know someone with kids, Lasso the Moon Wonderful Toys has toys that are fun for all ages.

They also sell cookie cutters knives, bowls, kettles, wine, tea, and much more. Don't make the mistake of thinking the store is only good for chefs!!
Note a lot of the stores strictly require masks in accordance with public health guidelines, regardless of state guidelines. So bring a mask!
These shops are a highlight of options, since there are clothing shops, vintage & antique shops, wine shops, and other gift shops not listed.
