Simple Geometric Still Life

Erase the inside lines of the cube. Erase the cylinder lines that overlaps with the cube and sphere.

Draw the horizon line.

Draw and number your 6 step value scale on a separate piece of paper!

Look at our reference image. What parts of the image have the darkest values?

The background and the shadows have the darkest values. Use your #1 value to shade the background.

Check out the shadow of the sphere and the cube. Where is the light source? What’s shapes do you see?

Draw you sphere shadow. Fill it in with a #1 darkest value.

Draw you cube shadow. Fill it in with a #1 darkest value.

Our light source is coming from the top left. Draw a #3 value on the front face of the cube. Draw a #5 value on the top of the cube.

Shade your sphere using the technique we’ve been practicing!

Shade your cylinder with a #3 middle value on the right, getting lighter until you reach the middle with a #6 bright white value.

Shade the foreground with a #5 lightest value.

Go back and check your work to see if you need to adjust any values.
