Stamping And Pressing Clay For Texture
What you'll need
Clay
Leaves/lace/rings/pebbles. Texture!
Rolling Pin
Find a green leaf with a lot of texture/ridges. You want a plant that won’t fall apart quickly.

Place leaf on a slab of clay.

Gently press into the clay.

Use a roller to evenly press over clay. Not hard enough to flatten slab, just enough to press leaf.

Lift edge of leaf and slowly pull away from clay.

You can layer other leaves to create a more interesting composition.

Again, gently peel up. If some leaves stick, simply try again. You can use a small blade or point.

You will notice that where the object is more delicate the image is lighter.

If you aren’t happy with your design simple use your hand or the back of a spoon to erase.

Try using different objects that have texture/relief to.

Experiment with how hard you push the object into the clay. You will create ridges and patterns.

You can create interesting patterns with jewelry, beads, stones, etc.

This process works with real or fake plants, lace-anything with texture!

Remember you might need to roll gently a few times to pick up the most texture and detail.
