take prime rib out of refrigerator 1 1/2 hours before cooking

slather roast with a rub of butter, garlic, rosemary, thyme, parsley, kosher salt and pepper.

bake at 500 degrees F for 30 minutes ~ then lower temperature to 325 degrees F and roast for 13-15 minutes for medium rare.

cover with foil and let rest 30 minutes before carving the prime rib.
