The Ultimate Guide To Classic Chicago Eats
Billy Goat Tavern - 60 E. Lake St. 🐐 (or 430 N. Michigan St.)
The owner, Billy, got the moniker when a goat fell off a passing truck and wandered inside the tavern.
Butt in anytime for their classic Cheezborger Cheezborger Cheezborger!
Garrett Popcorn Shop - 4 E. Madison St. or 625 N. Michigan St.
They've been poppin' for over 70 years! You can smell this gourmet, Chicago-style popcorn in the air. 🍿
When enjoying the Garrett Mix, Chicagoans have an unwritten rule. Always eat one caramel popcorn with one cheese popcorn! πŸ˜‰
Al's #1 Italian Beef - 1079 W. Taylor St.
Rated #1 by Chicagoans, Al's has been serving their iconic Italian beef sandwich for over 75 years!
The meat is roasted for 3.5 hours with secret seasonings, sliced paper-thin, and served with peppers. How would you like yours, wet or dipped?
Eli's Cheesecake - 6701 W. Forest Preserve Dr. The annual Cheesecake Festival is also held here. 🍰
Eli's Cheesecake is the #1 dessert at the Taste of Chicago!
My recommendations (and favorites) are: the Strawberry-Topped Cheesecake...
...and the Turtle 🐒 Cheesecake
There's no such thing as too many photos of Eli's πŸ˜‚ They also make gluten-free and vegan cheesecakes!
Ann Sather - 909 W. Belmont St.
Since 1945, this Swedish bakey has been serving their famous cinnamon rolls. They are epic! This pecan roll was pretty good, too. 😊
Jim's Original 🌭- 1250 S. Union St.
Jim's fame began in 1943 and is known as the "Original Maxwell Street Polish Sausage Stand". (Open 24 hrs) I think he's ready for his close-up 🀣
Recommendations: pork chop sammie, a polish with grilled onions, or a hotdog with thick and dee-lish fries!
Do-rite Donuts 🍩 - 181 N. Morgan (or 835 N. Michigan)
These cakes aren't just pretty, they are PDG (Pretty Darn Good) ! Vegan varieties are also available.
