Visiting Indiana Dunes National & State Parks
Start at the Visitor Center to grab a map, use the restrooms, and pick out a souvenir.
1
Get up close to one of the Great Lakes, Lake Michigan.
2
Climb the sand dunes! The State Park has 3 huge dunes. Climb all 3 to complete the 3 Dunes Challenge.
3
What you climb up must be climbed down, or run down!
Follow the 1.5 mile trail to reach all three dunes.
4
Along the way enjoy the amazing views of Lake Michigan.
5
You’ll know you’ve reached the top of each dune when you find these posts. Mt. Tom is the tallest at 192 feet.
6
Mt. Holden is 184 feet.
7
Mt. Jackson is the shortest at 176 feet.
8
The sand is so fine and soft. Perfect for making sand angels.
9
Reward your hard work with dinner at Shoreline Brewery & Restaurant in nearby Michigan City.
10
We recommend the gumbo, Mac n cheese, fish & chips, and the kids hamburger meal.
And these monster onion rings are amazing!
Just outside of Michigan City you’ll find Mt. Baldy, also part of the National Park.
11
This dune is 126 feet tall and considered a “living dune,” because it moves or shifts every year.
Climbing Mt. Baldy is no easy feat!
Once you reach the top there’s a flat area to hang out on and you can enjoy the views and the sunset.
12
The kids will love playing in the sand!
And coming down isn’t nearly as hard as going up!
Be prepared for sand to be EVERYWHERE 😜
