Create A Papercut Using An iPad & Cricut
You will need an iPad, Apple Pencil, Procreate App & Cricut cutting machine!
1
Open Procreate & create a canvas to the size you require. Mine is slightly smaller than my frame.
2
Start roughly drafting out your idea. It doesn’t have to be neat!
3
Start a new layer, choose a solid monoline brush and start to neatly draw up your design.
4
Ensure your lines aren’t too thin or they will be fragile when cut. I recommend no smaller than 15%.
5
Make sure everything is touching something else otherwise it will be left behind on the mat!
6
Pinch layers together, hide background & export as PNG. Undo before leaving so you can edit later!
7
Open the Cricut app, select new project & import
8
Check you are happy with your artwork, name your project, and place on the canvas.
9
Resize your artwork to the size you need for your frame.
10
I like to mirror my design as I prefer the look of the cut on the reverse of the paper.
11
Take your cutting mat, remove protective layer and fix card to the mat.
12
Press make it, select your machine and choose the material to cut.
13
Load your mat into your machine and press the flashing arrow button.
14
Press the flashing C button, stand back and watch your Cricut work it’s magic!
15
Once your project has finished cutting press the arrow button to unload your mat and your creation!
16
Carefully peel away the outside waste paper.
17
Release the rest of your papercut using a cricut spatula and bending the mat back on itself.
18
Using a weeding tool, release any other parts that still need to be weeded.
19
Take the middle section you weeded from your papercut, place it over a photo and draw around it.
20
Position your photo behind the frame and carefully secure in place with some tape.
21
Secure inside of a clear frame.
22
And you’re done!
