Guatemala: Hike A Volcano For This View!
This is Volcano Acatenango. It's one of Guatemala's most active volcanoes!
Guatemala is part of the world's Ring of Fire: this means the country has lots of volcanoes.
From the summit of dormant Volcan Acatenango, you have views of Volcan Fuego actively erupting.
The hike up takes 6 hours and is very challenging because of the steep terrain and altitude.
I recommend hiring a guide for the hike. Take your time, with lots of rests and lots of water.
As you hike higher and higher, there are less trees and lots of mist.
On the first day of the hike you'll arrive at basecamp. There, you'll rest and camp for the night.
From basecamp, you have your first views of the erupting Volcan Fuego.
The next morning is the hike to the summit of Volcan Acatenango to watch the sunrise.
It takes about 1.5 hours and it's tough because you have to hike through volcanic sand.
But it's worth every difficult step!
