Hand Lettering Process using Procreate on iPad
I created this digital hand lettering piece using Procreate & an Apple Pencil on my iPad. Here's that process…
Use the HB Pencil brush for a quick rough sketch.
1
On a new layer, with a different color, further define guidelines and letters.
2
I outline my letters using the Monoline calligraphy brush, then drag and drop color to fill them in.
3
Play with background color in layers, then use the Monoline brush and eraser to further refine letters.
4
Experiment with background colors and inline decoration. I ultimately decided not to use the inline.
5
Instead I duplicated the lettering layer, changed the color, shifted it and moved it to the back to act as a drop shadow.
6
Experiment with more decoration, but ultimately decide simpler is better.
7
Time for final touches. I needed more space between my two lines of text, then added small supporting words.

Here's a look at the full time lapse!
