How To Sew Scrunchies!
Cut a 3"x22" rectangle of fabric. Linen or cotton are great for beginners!
1
With fabric right side down, fold the short edges over about 3/8" and press.
2
Fold the fabric right sides together the long way. Pin (or press if you'd rather). Tip: you do not need this many pins!
3
Stitch the seam with a 1/4" seam allowance.
4
Stitch, being sure to reverse at the beginning & end of seam to secure.
5
Attach a safety pin to the top of the tube and roll the top down into itself. Use the pin to keep turning the tube right side out.
6
Remove safety pin from tube and pin to a 7.5" strip of 1/4" elastic.
7
Insert pin into tube and scrunch the tube over the elastic (hang onto the other end of the elastic so you don't lose it in the tube).
8
Overlap elastic about 1/2" (you will stitch it together in the next step).
9
Use a zigzag stitch to sew the elastic together. I go back and forth several times so it's super secure.
10
First seaming option: the "easy way". Overlap one edge over the other about 1/2".
11
You'll stitch right across that overlap.
12
Stitch across the scrunchie.
13
That's seaming option 1. Now I'll show you my favorite way to seam a scrunchie.
14
For a super neat seam, try it this way: Bring the edges of the scrunchie together...
15
And hand stitch around the entire opening using a ladder stitch/invisible stitch. The stitch is easy to learn and you will use it all the time!
16
Pin the opening (I suggest a safety pin) to keep it together if needed.
17
The finished scrunchies! A quick & easy sewing project!
