JEWELRY DISPLAY (with homemade clay)
Make your dough: Measure out 1/2 cup of cornstarch, 1 cup baking soda, and 3/4 cup water.
1
Add everything to a pan and stir over medium heat.
Keep stirring—it will get thick within a few minutes.
Transfer to a bowl to cool—make sure to cover it so it won’t dry out.
While that’s cooling, make a mold. Use cardboard and butchers twine to make a triangle.
2
Make your stand: Use extra baking soda to ensure it doesn’t stick. Kneed it until it is smooth.
3
Roll it out with more baking soda so it won’t stick. The straws on each side give uniform thickness.
Cut your edges. I went for a rustic look, you can make a template and measure for more precision.
Move everything onto the triangle mold—I’ve been working on a silicone mat that will form around it.
Use a wooden skewers to make your holes. Again, measure this out and be precise if you’d like.
Put all of this in a 170° oven for 2 hours, flip it over and put back in for 1-2 hours to dry fully.
4
Once it’s cool, prep it for painting: Use a nail file to smooth any rough edges.
5
Clean off all the dusted baking soda with a dry brush.
Paint the entire jewelry holder—this helps to seal it too.
6
Use a toothpick to clear out the holes of paint.
I chose to trim each edge in gold.
Now show off your jewelry without it getting tangled or lost!
