Make A Custom Surgical Cap For A Healthcare Hero
The materials you need are: a 5” x 12” piece of heat transfer vinyl (aka HTV) and an 11” x 44” piece of 100% cotton fabric.
1
Download & print the free “easy scrub cap pattern” from Create to Donate. Assemble the pattern as instructed.
2
Download one of the free heartbeat SVG designs from Create to Donate.
3
Use a Silhouette or Cricut to cut out the HTV design. Remember: When using HTV the shiny plastic side goes face down on the mat.
4
Weed the design & set aside for later.
5
Cut out scrub cap pieces using pattern. The band is cut on the fold & the top edge of the pattern should be placed 7” away from the bottom edge.
6
Center the HTV design to the band piece then iron onto fabric using manufacturer’s recommend settings.
7
Fold over the end of the top piece 1/4” & clip. Use a zigzag stitch to finish the edge.
8
Find the center of each piece then, match the center points & clip. Use the shape of the top piece as guide to finish clipping the pieces together.
9
Use a 1/4” seam allowance to sew the pieces together. Finger press the seam open to check for any missed stitching especially around the curve.
10
Fold the bottom edge over 1” toward the inside and clip. Tuck the scraggly end piece into the fold to finish the edge.
11
Use a zigzag stitch to secure the edge. Also use a zigzag to finish the angled edges to prevent fraying. (This is the wrong side of the cap.)
12
Turn the surgical cap right sides out and you’re done!
