Painting ceramic sculpture.
Using a dark acrylic paint thinned with water, fill in the deepest crevices of sculpture.
Mix a slightly lighter color and add a layer. It might take some time to fill everything in.
Cover entire sculpture in paint, let dry.
Mix a lighter color to paint on the higher areas of sculpture.
Lighten paint again and brush on. Lighten by adding a small amount of white to paint. Let dry.
Create a higher highlight. Use less water so that you are “dry brushing” the paint. Let dry.
Dry brush highlights on only the highest points of piece. This brings out all of the details.
Mix in a luminous or metallic paint into highlight color to add a magical touch.
Paint highlight on by brushing on in one direction. Adding metallic just on the edges.
All done! Paint sculptures great alternative to glaze. Immediate results and no need for a kiln!
