Puget Sound Viewpoint
SUPPLIES NEEDED: Watercolor paper, Watercolors, Paint brushes(thin, medium/wide), Water, Mixing Palette, Paper Towel
Using a small bowl/plate, gently trace a circle in the middle of your paper.
1
Generously paint the circle in with plain water 💦
2
Paint a smooth layer of blue using plenty of water to keep it translucent.
3
Add more water if you need to lighten/spread the paint more.
4
Let the first layer of paint dry completely for a few minutes(5-10)before starting the next layer. A hair dryer can speed this up.
5
Mix a deeper shade of blue & violet before painting a horizontal line across the top third of the circle.
6
Carefully paint in the mountain ⛰ range above the horizontal line. (Remember to use enough 💦 to keep this layer translucent).
7
Gradually darken the mountains by adding extra layers of paint/pigment.
8
With the skinny brush, paint a thin line of the blue-violet all around the entire circle while you wait for the mountains to dry.
9
Paint a second, DARKER layer of mountains in “front” of the original mountain range. Use extra paint/pigment here with a little less water💦
10
Then, paint two horizontal lines to create the illusion of land masses in the middle-ground of your seascape.
11
Add some textured, lowland “hills” to the middle-ground with short, vertical brushstrokes.
12
Make sure the lowland hills are the DEEPEST shade of blue-violet. Adding a bit of black can help with this.
13
Paint tiny “V” shapes above the mountains for birds in your sky.
14
Paint in green, vertical lines of varying heights along the bottom of the circle. These will be your tree🌲trunks.
15
Using more green paint, generously “dot/dab” in the foliage, filling in the spaces between your different trees.🌲
16
After mixing a deeper shade of green(by adding more blue/black), fill in the base of the trees to create the illusion of a foreground.
17
If you want, go back & add more details/colors to your trees & other elements of your painting.
18
Feel free to add any meaningful quote/affirmations/mantra of your choice!
