Stitch Tutorial: Crab Stitch or Reverse Single Crochet
You'll need a couple rows of a simple stitch to work as a base for your crab stitches. Here I have double crocheted rows of 14 stitches.
1
When working a Crab Stitch you will work in the reverse direction and insert your hook into the stitches to the right.
2
Chain 1 but do not turn your work so that you can work into the stitch to the right of your chain.
3
Insert hook into the stitch, pick up yarn, pull through stitch, yarn over, pull through both loops.
4
Repeat again in 2nd stitch to the right. Insert hook into the stitch, pick up yarn, pull through stitch, yarn over, pull through both loops.
5
And again in the third stitch continuing right. Insert hook into the stitch, pick up yarn, pull through stitch, yarn over, pull through both loops.
6
Continue working Crab Stitches to the right and down the length of the row.
7
You can now crochet the Crab Stitch! When you reach the end of your row you can fasten off like any other stitch.
8
Crab Stitches can be worked into stitches like in our example or into the sides of rows like I've done on this Treat Egg.
9
Or worked into front or back loops to create a surface texture like in the Moonrise Shawl Pattern.
