Tools I Keep Nearby for Artwork
All things watercolor ... Winsor & Newton Cotman or Professional. Fav set: pocket box. Fav colors: payne's gray, permanent rose, intense blue.
Accessories: an old pint jar for water, masking tape, a pipette (for wetting and diluting paints), and a brush rest made from air dry clay.
All things drawing ... t square, good eraser, first pencil I can grab, micron pens, and of course, calligraphy pen and nib (usually Nikko G to draw).
I use a lightbox to transfer some artwork from the sketch stage to the final paper.
All things calligraphy ... straight and oblique calligraphy pens, black ink (favs: Ziller and Sumi), nibs, lint-free cloth, and micron pen.
Several different nibs. Fav ... for drawing: Nikko G & Hunt 22. For calligraphy: Hiro 41 & Blue Pumpkin (but I have many more favorites).
All thinks metallic ... gelly roll pens & Dr. Ph. Martin's irredescent inks (for amazing shimmer and ease of use). And Pearl Ex antique silver.
All things white ... watercolor uses the paper as white, but if you need to use white on top of it, look to these: gelly roll white & Bleed proof.
A homemade fav: walnut ink.
Less used but still loved: water brush pens, pentel brush sign pen, folded pen.
But you only need a few things to get started. Give it a try with this tutorial.
